A Time And Place

Visit The Refuge

Richard Kelly has been highlighting the best in British musical talent for over 25 years.

A celebrated music photographer, best known for his time working with the Arctic Monkeys, this exhibition includes rare images of some of the UK’s greatest stars, including Amy Winehouse, John Cooper Clarke and Florence + The Machine.

A series of striking portraits and impromptu shots which capture raw insights from behind the scenes, Richard has chosen the title ‘A Time and Place’ for the exhibition, as a celebration of iconic artists alongside new Manchester talent.

A great supporter of new talent, Richard features early images of Florence Welch in the exhibition, believed to be the first captured of Florence + The Machine for the media. Other highlights include a rare moment of seclusion backstage in 2007 for Amy Winehouse and Richard’s first ever photo of the Artic Monkeys, taken in their rehearsal room in Sheffield.

Sitting alongside his photos of the great stars of British music sit remarkable images of up-and-coming talent, including local musicians Antony Szmierek and Akemi Fox.

Discover our new exhibition Richard Kelly: A Time and Place this summer in The Refuge, from 1 June.
